Transformation and opportunity
CEO commentary by Kelly Somerville
As we turn the calendar to 2025, it’s a fitting time to reflect on how far we’ve come and set our sights on what lies ahead in Ontario’s livestock innovation landscape. The past year has underscored the critical importance of collaboration, resilience, and forward-thinking as we navigate a rapidly changing world. Together, we’ve made strides in integrating industry perspectives into the research process, advancing on farm challenges through a cross-disciplinary approach, and continuing to drive innovation across the sector.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a year of transformation and opportunity. At LRIC, we’re excited to continue driving initiatives that empower research to deliver real-world impact. Innovations in artificial intelligence, data-driven decision-making, and animal health solutions are poised to redefine how we approach challenges and opportunities across the sector. Our GRIP (Getting Research Into Practice) approach will remain central, ensuring industry and producer voices are at the table from the very start of research initiatives.
This year, we’ll also focus on leveraging Ontario’s unique strengths to maximize the long-term value of our research infrastructure, ensuring it meets both today’s demands and tomorrow’s potential.
As we embrace this new year, I invite all our partners, stakeholders, and collaborators to join us in shaping the future of livestock innovation.
